The First Tee of Charlotte
Perseverance. Courtesy. Integrity. Honesty. All great values that can help increase a child’s potential for success—and all present in the traditional game of golf.
The First Tee, a non-profit organization of the World Golf Foundation, is dedicated to cultivating the positive values of golf by making the game accessible and affordable for young people across the country. Since 1997, The First Tee has been working to make golf a reality for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the game.
Introducing The First Tee of Charlotte
In 2002, The First Tee of Charlotte began offering programs for children at The Golf Village in South Charlotte. That summer, 250 children participated in the program, cementing The First Tee’s presence in Charlotte—and the need for its own, permanent facility.
Programs offered by The First Tee of Charlotte:
- The First Tee Scholars Program
Awards scholarships to participants who demonstrate exceptional achievement in academics, leadership skills, character development, and Chapter and community involvement. - The First Tee Life Skills Experience
Teaches participants about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude; how to make decisions by thinking about consequences; how to define and set goals; and how to transfer values such as honesty, integrity, responsibility, confidence, and sportsmanship from the golf course to everyday life. - The First Tee Annual Life Skills and Leadership Academy
A week-long camp offering life skills and leadership development workshops, golf clinics, career exploration, meetings with sports figures representing the values of golf, and the opportunity to meet peers from across the country.
