Wachovia Championship Unveils New Parking Options

Shuttle Service Available from Designated Lots

CHARLOTTE N.C., March 3, 2006 – Ticket holders for the 2006 Wachovia Championship will have new and closer parking options as the fourth edition of the tournament comes to Quail Hollow Club (off Gleneagles Road) May 1-7.

Monday-Friday

Carowinds will replace the Charlotte Coliseum as the primary parking area Monday through Friday, only. This parking venue, located at I-77 and Carowinds Blvd., is 10 minutes closer than previous years’ parking areas.  Parking at Carowinds will be $10 per car and shuttles will run from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Monday-Sunday

Uptown Shuttle, located at the Charlotte Convention Center on the Second Street entrance, is also available. The complimentary Uptown shuttle will run 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Event parking for the Uptown shuttle will be available in the surrounding lots; however, the tournament does not control pricing or availability.

Saturday & Sunday

Ballantyne Corporate Park, which is not open during weekdays, will become a parking area Saturday and Sunday only. Parking in Ballantyne Corporate Park is available from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with shuttles running during those times. A roundtrip shuttle ticket is $2 per person, kids 12 and under free with ticketed adult.

Rexford Road Shuttle, a new weekend parking option this year, is accessible from Morrison Blvd via Sharon Road. Patrons can access open lots following directional signs and are not allowed to park in SouthPark Mall. Shuttles will be running from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from this location. Roundtrip shuttle fees are $2 per person, kids 12 and under free with a ticketed adult.

No public parking will be available at or near Quail Hollow Club. Gleneagles Road will be closed between Park Road and Quail Hollow Road, beginning Monday morning. Neighborhoods accessed via Gleneagles Road will also be closed to the general public. Only cars with special permits will be allowed past security at either end of Gleneagles Road or at the various subdivision entrances along Gleneagles Road. Cars parked in unauthorized areas around the tournament site will be towed at the owner’s expense.

The tournament’s Central Will Call office will be located in the parking lot of Symphony Park (the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot at the intersection of Carnegie Blvd. and Barclay Downs), from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday - Sunday. Satellite Will Call sites are located at Carowinds/Carolina Mills Outlet Mall, available Monday - Friday only, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Ballantyne Corporate Park, available Saturday and Sunday only, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. A proper photo ID is required to pick up tickets.

Commuters using Park Road and Quail Hollow Road near the tournament site should expect some delays starting Monday, May 1 and continuing through Sunday, May 7. During the tournament, traffic updates will air on 610 AM WFNZ and 1110 AM WBT.

Parking for patrons with disabilities is located at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, 7224 Park Road, Monday - Friday only and South Mecklenburg High School, 8900 Park Road, Saturday and Sunday only. A valid handicapped parking tag is required. Wheelchair-accessible buses will shuttle disabled persons and their guests to the tournament.

Patrons with disabilities arriving at Quail Hollow Club via the Disabled Shuttle will have their tickets marked by Special Needs Ambassadors upon arrival at the Drop-off/Pick-up Tent. Patrons with disabilities will need this ticket in order to return to the Shuttle Area following play.

Upon arrival to the Quail Hollow grounds, event Ambassadors will be available to update patrons and direct, escort or transport individuals to the handicapped seating areas or other bleachers. Designated seating areas for people with disabilities are located at the Driving Range, 9th Green and behind the 18th Green. For assistance back to the Shuttle Lot, simply inform the Special Needs Ambassador at any of the designated areas.

Disabled access restrooms are conveniently located at the Reserved Parking area (Forest Hill Church/South Mecklenburg High School), Driving Range, 3rd Green, 9th Tee, 13th Green, 17th Green and 18th Green.
