"I like to interact with people, plus I'm a big golf fan," says Chuck Caldwell, a second year Survey Ambassador and self-employed carpenter.

This essential committee helps Championship planners evaluate various aspects of tournament events and how they impact volunteers, spectators and sponsors.

Survey Ambassadors ask a list of questions to be able to provide proper feedback to tournament organizers. They inquire about parking conditions, local accommodations and other general questions to help determine how the Championship is enjoyed.

"We meet together in the mornings to decide which areas of the golf course we are going to observe," says Caldwell. "We may have three or four different sections we can go to, but we try to stay with the largest mass of spectators."

"You need to be ready to stand and walk. Some people can't stand the heat." The heat however doesn't stop the Survey Ambassadors. "The main thing is to get opinions from people so that adjustments can be made for next year."

How many people do they survey? "When I was doing it last year, they wanted 1,000 people per day, maybe more." It is a large number of people to assess in one day, but the outcome produces numerous long-term benefits. "You want to make as many people happy as possible," explains Caldwell.

As a big golf fan, Caldwell benefits as well. "You get to learn the golf course," plus, he explains, "I get a kick out of talking to spectators."
