There's an old saying that an army runs on its stomach. That could also be said of a large group of volunteers. Let's face it, food and drink is a prime motivator, especially when it's free and catered.

Keeping the spirits of more than 2,000 volunteers primed for duty is the main goal of Robin Pugh and fifteen or so other members of the Volunteer Food Hosts Committee. The fact that a majority of volunteers at the Wachovia Championship return each year is an indication that they must be doing something right.

Robin and committee volunteers maintain Ambassador Alley, an air-conditioned tent that serves as an oasis from the hot sun for hard-working volunteers. There they get a chance to cool down, socialize with colleagues, and refuel with a boxed lunch or breakfast, coffee, muffins or a favorite cold beverage.

Ambassador Alley is also a central source of volunteer tournament information and maps.

Robin, who served last year as a Greeter, was recruited by a fellow Wachovia employee to the committee. She enjoys being a part of the inner workings of such a first-class event. For her, it's rewarding to represent her employer and give back to the community. She also enjoys attending the Ambassador Party thrown each year for volunteers.
