How has the Wachovia Championship gained status as an elite sporting event? For starters, it's taken the concentrated efforts of tournament officials, staff and volunteers, and the gracious accommodations of Quail Hollow, the host club.
It also helps that the support team presents a consistent and positive front to all those who attend or participate. That's where members of the Volunteer Uniform/ Tournament Office Support Committee have earned their stripes.
The Wachovia Championship uniform, which consists of a shirt, outer wear, hat, cap or visor, was assembled to ensure a professional look among volunteers who essentially serve as ambassadors of the tournament.
Three-year volunteer David Murski and other Uniform Committee members perform the tasks of sizing and distributing uniforms before and during the tournament. In two sessions, volunteers gather in advance of the tournament at the Charlotte Coliseum to be fitted. Exchanges are handled as necessary.
The committee also provides administrative support for the Tournament Office by answering phones and meeting and greeting guests.
According to David, the committee is well-run, and each year has proven to be a positive experience. An avid golfer, he has used his experience at the Wachovia Championship to land a position as a volunteer at the U.S. Open.
