Tournament director Kym Hougham

For 365 days each year, Kym Hougham lives with the Wachovia Championship.

As the tournament's executive director, he is the person responsible for bringing the tournament to life each spring. What is one, hopefully, sun-splashed, star-filled week for most people is a year-round job for Hougham, who came to Charlotte more than five years ago to bring a new event to life.

He is a familiar face to PGA Tour players who now seek him out before he can come to them when he visits events preceding the Wachovia Championship. He has a positive energy like a man who never wants to say no.

Hougham is responsible for many of the special touches that have made the Wachovia Championship stand out.

In fact, he is one of the special touches.

"An event like this has to have someone who is every morning focused on nothing else but the quality of this event. That's Kym," said Mac Everett, executive chairman of the championship.

"You can't have a tournament like this without someone like him."
